Our group is part of St. Andrews Lutheran Church's mission of Love Everyone, Exclude No One. We are a diverse group of people and hold a drum and dance workshop monthly faciliated by Elie from Afrika Yetu. All ages, orientations, abilities welcome. No prior experience is required. We start with the basics each month. We have the philosophy that everyone has something to offer and seek to have a musical experience where everyone feels successful and a part. Drums are provided. Bring your drums if you have them. We take a 10-minute break to have a snack and to chat. All ages are welcome--kids traditionally play alongside us bigger kids. We are handicapped accessible and welcoming to all (kids, GLBT, atheists, agnostics...really, all are welcome).
The event starts with a warmup and general orientation to the drum, then are taught a drum phrase, sometimes in parts. Then some African lyrics are added, and sometimes African dance to accompany the drum.
Parking is available in the church lot (off of Morewood, behind the church), on Center Avenue.
