WELCOME TO THREE RIVERS THUNDER!

Its' pretty simple...we are a group of enthusiastic hand drummers from around the 'burgh n at'. We all have drums (and extras to share) and like to see what strange musical creations and magic moments emerge when we all sit in a room or in the park together. It's very informal, and you don't have to have any formal musical training to take part in what we do....but you already know that. Just hang out, play a drum or other persussion instrument, enjoy the moment and each others company.

We are NOT a "facilitated" group, so we don't really have formal leadership during the circle. The way it works is like this...someone starts a groove...someone else joins in...others follow along...we jam. The grooves undulate freely, as do our spirits. We like it this way. Please try to understand this concept, as some people have come expecting a different kind of experience. There are "facilitated" drum circles around the area, but this is not one of them. This is a free-form jam session and all about fun!

I believe it's necessary to say this, as 'drum circle ettiquette' may not be public knowledge....but please try not to carry on conversations inside the drum circle...this may seem frivolous, but it is quite disturbing to some...as well as smoking, eating....anything but drumming. It's kind of a spiritual space, so in respect to that, please honor the inner space of the circle and it's participants.

During the summer we meet every saturday afternoon at Flagstaff Hill/Schenley Park... in the grotto. The "grotto" is located about a third of the way up the hill (off to the right, as you're standing in front of the conservatory)...just listen for the drums. We usually play for several hours...you can stay for as long as you like...for the whole time or just part of it.

Bring a chair and something to keep yourself refreshed...a snack and beverage of your choice. Many of the members bring stuff to share with the group. You can too if you like : ) It's always appreciated.

For the most part this is an adult oriented gathering of people. Children are welcome, but parents...please be mindful of their ways. Observe the fact that you are still their parent and we are not babysitters. People are sensitive in varying degrees, and the drum circle is a serious jam session. You wouldn't let your children run around the middle of a string ensemble, would you? There are expensive instruments, and it goes without saying that your responsibility extends to your kids. If you are going to bring your kids, that's fine, but please have something else to keep them occupied when their attention span is depleted. Young people who have an interest and afinity for this type of thing are absolutley encouraged to attend.

This is a very groovy thing, and if you're into 'festival' type drumming...High level, energetic, freeform jams on percussion instruments....you're going to love this! Dancers, spinners, jugglers, etc...are encouraged to add to the atmosphere!
